“The homely church, for when you’re away from home!”
TRBC is a Spirit filled; Bible based Christian Church, reaching out to people across Portsmouth and its surrounding areas.
Our aim is to be God-Centred, Purpose-Driven and People-Empowering.
We have a mandate to love God and follow Christ’s example in loving people.
As a growing community, we share a passion to reach people who don’t yet know God and help them find a relationship with their creator.
Students play a key part in the church’s vision and we would love to take this opportunity to invite you to come along to one of our services and see if TRBC is the place for you.
We provide Friendship, Free Transport & Opportunities!
Friendship – Our cell for 16-25year olds, along with all our other meetings, provides a great platform for building great relationships with other Christians from a range of backgrounds.
Free Transport – some people prefer the healthy option of either walking or cycling to church, others don’t mind waiting around for buses, alternately if you’re keen to come along, you can take advantage of our FREE ‘pickup & drop back’ service for students.
Opportunities – at TRBC there are lots of opportunities to get involved in building up the Kingdom of God, whether it’s: playing or singing in the worship team, serving in the media team, volunteering for our youth & student ministry, or making cups of tea at the end of the service. Whatever your gifts & talents might be, there are plenty of openings for you to be an active part of the Body!
Youth & Student Worship Team - If you are a singer or musician, you might be interested in coming along to one of our rehearsals.
For times of rehearsals please ask Julie or Dan Keeping.

Student Testimonies - July 2010
After spending 5 months attending TRBC's Sunday service as a somewhat agnostic spiritually person, I returned home for the summer break and have attended Church in Bristol independently for the first time as an adult. This itself does not mean I consciously call myself a Christian, but thanks to TRBC I have become much more open spirituality and am beginning to actively accept God as part of my life. I am still a work in progress. I'm looking forward to returning to TRBC after the summer and finishing off an Alpha Course.

I'm one of the many Christians who spend a lot of time battling to keep Jesus at the forefront of their lives. When I first attended Tangier Road Baptist Church in February, the first thing to jump out at me was the community spirit, and that almost everybody came to say hello - and spent the whole service welcoming me and my (not Christian...yet) boyfriend with open hearts and lots of hugs! Since then, I've learned so much about what it is to be a Christian – I've learned important life skills such as how to forgive people – as well as being patient and trusting that God will work in His own time, not when I want Him to! Being at TRBC has been a highlight of my time at University, and the loving acceptance of everybody has encouraged me in my faith.
God has opened my eyes to so many incredible, inspirational people and each unique service has helped me develop not just my faith but the life I lead that goes with it. Thank you TRBC, for preparing me to take my faith into the rest of my life!
Toni, English Language & Journalism graduate
The first time I attended a TRBC service was at Praise in the Park 2009 and it was the opposite of what I expected to experience from a church. The worship was amazing! I came away still singing the songs in my head, the speakers were really upbeat and engaging and all the people I met that morning were so welcoming and friendly. I was a bit worried that it wouldn't be the same at the Sunday services inside the church building, but it was. The sermons have been very useful in helping me learn more about the Christian faith and how to improve the way I live my life.
A couple of years ago I never thought I would be a follower of Jesus and attend church on Sundays, but now I love it and look forward to every service. I also thoroughly enjoy attending the Unique (women's ministry) events and other events that TRBC hold for the community. One of the major impacts TRBC has had on my life is that I now have many friends and feel that there is always someone to turn to if I need anything or am in trouble. I feel like everyone there loves me for who I am and doesn't judge me.

I have lived in Portsmouth as a student child nurse for 3 years, and have moved 3 times in those 3 years. They have been full of excitement, hard work and a longing for belonging to a church. In my home town we had a thriving student church and I struggled to find something similar here down in Portsmouth. That was until as newlyweds my husband and I moved house and decided to search for local vibrant churches. We had previously attended others but found none that suited both out needs. When I first stepped into TRBC I know I was a nervous wreck, however from the very start I was approached by people asking my name and getting to know me, actually wanting to know me, this was a total shock.
Within a couple of weeks, I started to have my own fan base at the church, mainly consisting of under 4 year olds, but the trust and faith that the whole church congregation have in one another, I can honestly admit I have never seen anywhere else. TRBC has enabled me to strive for more depth in my relationship with Christ and to challenge my everyday living. TRBC made me believe that everybody has a place in the church from speakers, the band, to the wonderful tea and coffee makers. I look forward to seeing where God will lead me with this church and my life. Harriet, BSC in Child Nursing at Southampton University based here in Portsmouth
Before I even came to TRBC (when I started Uni) I found myself being helped out. TRBC has an incredible family feel, and I felt like I belonged there as soon as I stepped inside. It feels like everyone there has time for you, and I've had a lot of help and mentorship while there just in my first year of Uni. There are great opportunities to exercise gifting's as well, and there's lots of willing support to help personal growth. Also, even though I lived quite far away (Southsea), I never really had any problems getting to TRBC because they're more than happy to provide free transport, which was a real blessing. Distance was never really a barrier, and their devotion to looking after people is amazing. The teaching is dynamic and engaging, and actually quite challenging as well. You're prompted and encouraged to grow and think about your life, regardless of your age! The worship gets better every week and would be described as upbeat and lively! These are really strong qualities for TRBC, and these things have helped me to establish that this is where I felt at home away from home."
Andy Wright, Studying Bio-Chemistry and serving as the Evangelistic Director on the University of Portsmouth Christian Union Leadership Team
The last two years have been a massive learning curve for me and a major part of leaving home was to go out and find a Church where I could really connect with God, something I didn't even start doing until well into my university course. TRBC is a great Church to do this at, the community is strong and people remember your name and notice when you aren't there. This really helps to make you feel part of something and I never feel as though I'm alone. Knowing that I'll always be able to talk to someone is of great reassurance and there are people of all ages at TRBC which helps to create a great family feel. My own relationship with God is constantly growing stronger, the sermons given can challenge my views but this encourages me to go away and rethink, to read and to pray before reaching any conclusions. It's a great place to be and I'm pleased to be a part of it.

The Holy Spirit led me to TRBC and as a result my life has changed and I have grown significantly in my relationship with Christ. I have been privileged to get involved in many areas of ministry, in particular working with youth, students and administration. Being given these opportunities, combined with regular mentorship with some of the core leaders has helped me develop enormously through Christ and has also helped me decide on a career path in teaching. My journey with TRBC first began when I met with the Student Pastor at a 'Church Search' organised by the Christian Union. TRBC is a lively family church, filled with the love and Spirit of God. The worship is very modern and relevant with tradition not lost. Also the potential opportunity of playing in the worship band is a hook for any young adult musicians looking to progress on their instrument.

I first came to TRBC after being teased with the offer of free pizza at the Freshers' week 'Church Search' back in 2008. I had tried a few other churches in the city, but finally settled at Tangier Road as it was so welcoming and accepting, making friends was very easy. In actual fact it was so welcoming and accepting that the first time I attended, I was invited to stay for the Youth and Student worship band practice that afternoon. Getting to the church is no problem, as free lifts are available, and you can always be assured of a warm welcome. I remained in the worship bands for a year, until I moved out of the city, but still occasionally play at special events, or when the band are short of numbers. Even though I no longer live in the city, TRBC is still a place close to my heart. It is comforting to know that when I am near, I can pop by, enjoy a cup of tea and have real and meaningful conversations about God, my personal struggles or even just the football! The pizza was also pretty good.

I came into contact with TRBC while I was back in Canada. I was getting ready to hop across the pond for a military training course and I was looking for a church to call home for the next few months. When I arrived Dan quickly integrated me into the church body and into British culture. I learned very important things like pants were trousers, strollers were push chairs, and a trunk was a boot. One thing that I really enjoyed about TRBC is their overpowering love for God and for one another. That above all else impressed me the most. Though I was only in England for 4 months they helped me grow to be a stronger Christian and make bonds with my brothers and sisters in Christ that will last a life time.
